MIXTAPE: A Shimmer of Angels

Disclaimer: The photos aren't mine as I have grabbed them from Google. But I edited them out, hence the watermark.
(front cover)
This mix is based on the book I've read recently, A Shimmer of Angels. It was about angels and humans altogether in the same place. These songs I've chosen tell the emotions and the story of the book. I was actually listening to these while reading the book when I listed them down for this mixtape. It was like the background music for the scenes being played by my imagination while exploring that realm in my head. It depicts the characters' struggle on the crisis at hand and the love or feelings they were suppressing. I have to say the songs were chosen also for the three main characters and certain events in their lives.
(back cover)
I created the mix and put the songs in random order so here's the reason behind them:
1. Crossfire by Brandon Flowers - Rayna was alone in her struggle to search and learn the truth, if she really had lost her sanity or it was all real. She had been seeing the wings again but she has no one to turn onto, not even her best friend because she was afraid that she might lost him, too.

There's a still in the street outside your window
You're keeping secrets on your pillow
Let me inside, no cause for alarm
I promise tonight not to do no harm
I promise you babe, I will do you no harm
And we're caught up in the crossfire of Heaven and Hell
And we're searchin' for shelter

2. Use Somebody by Kings of Leon - Rayna found the only person, an angel, that could help her understand everything that was happening to her. Cam.

I've been roaming around, I was looking down at all I see
Painted faces fill the places I can't reach
You know that I could use somebody
You know that I could use somebody

3. Iris by Goo Goo Dolls - The struggle of Cam on his feelings about Rayna. He wanted to but he can't because of his duties as an angel. Whenever he was this close, he would restrain himself. Rayna was his Fall.

And I'd give up forever to touch you
'Cause I know that you feel me somehow
You're the closest to heaven that I'll ever be
And I don't want to go home right now

4. The Scientist by Coldplay - Cam was not clear about his feelings to Rayna. He said their kiss was a mistake when it's really not. He knew she was hurt but he had to do it.

Nobody said it was easy
It's such a shame for us to part
Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said it would be this hard
Oh, take me back to the start.

5. Calling All Angels by Train - Rayna in her struggle saw a light of hope through Cam as he was standing across the street. She called for him. She waited for him to come for her rescue...

I need a sign to let me know you're here
All of these lines are being crossed over the atmosphere
I need to know that things are gonna look up
'Cause I feel us drowning in a sea spilled from a cup

6. Mess I Made by Parachute - When Cam wasn't able to be there for Rayna when she badly needed him. He wanted to help her but his duties stopped him again. He was torn between his work and his love. He watched her struggle and walked away, regretting every step.

Should've kissed you there
I should've held your face
I should've watched those eyes
Instead of run in place
I should've called you out
I should've said your name
I should've turned around
I should've looked again

7. Never Let Me Go by Florence + The Machine - This song was just perfect when Kade came to Rayna's rescue. She was too fragile in his eyes and she needed a rock to lean on to.

And it's breaking over me
A thousand miles down to the sea bed
Found the place to rest my head
Never let me go
Never let me go
Never let me go
Never let me go

8. No Matter How Hard We Try by Jaylene Johnson - A song for another Kade and Rayna moment.

She was an angel lying on the bathroom floor
She couldn't take it anymore
It was just too hard to breathe
He was the fallen hero banging on the door
Yeah, he hit it til his fists were sore
Couldn't bring himself to leave

9. It's Love by Kina Grannis - This song is for the three of them pondering on their feelings for the first time. But I mostly think this applied to Cam and Rayna's first moment together. It was all very innocent and somehow friendly, in denial of the real thing.

You, afraid to fall
You know it's all
You, afraid to fall
You know it's all love, love.

10. Never Say Never by The Fray - Rayna was about to fall to the pit when someone caught her arm and stopped her descent. This was perfect for that whole scene.

Picture, you're the queen of everything
As far as the eye can see
Under your command
I will be your guardian
When all is crumbling
To steady your hand
Don't let me go
Don't let me go
Don't let me go

11. Let It Go by Cavo - This was goodbye... For now... I hope...

Wait around to find the time
Only you can take what's mine
But don't ever go away
I'll be waiting, I need to let it go
I also created another cover showing the eyes of Cam, Rayna and Kade. Well, these eyes were taken from the people I wanted to portray the trio. There is just something about the eyes that can tell the personality of the character. I hope you loved the songs above! But here's another treat. Below is the book's trailer, so enjoy!
